Frequently
Asked
Questions

How does Fodmap find my trigger foods? +

Fodmap looks at what you ate in the 48 hours before each flare and compares it against your normal eating. Foods that keep showing up before flares more often than chance rise up your personal suspect list, ranked by the strength of the evidence in your own logs. It is a ranked list of suspects to test, not a diagnosis.

What is the low-FODMAP diet? +

The best-researched dietary approach for IBS. FODMAPs are fermentable carbohydrates found in foods like onion, garlic, wheat, milk, and certain fruits. The diet runs in three phases: temporary elimination, structured reintroduction one FODMAP group at a time, and personalization, where you settle into the widest diet your gut tolerates.

Do I have to avoid FODMAPs forever? +

No. Elimination is designed to be temporary, typically 2 to 6 weeks. The point of the full protocol is to reintroduce foods systematically and end up eating the widest possible diet. Most people tolerate several FODMAP groups fine. Clinical guidance recommends doing the diet with a GI dietitian, and the app reminds you of that along the way.

How does the guided reintroduction work? +

Fodmap walks you through all six FODMAP subgroups one at a time: fructose, lactose, sorbitol, mannitol, fructans, and GOS. Each challenge uses a single-FODMAP test food with a 3-day escalating dose. You log symptoms daily and the app records a verdict of tolerated, borderline, or sensitive, building your tolerance profile.

How does Fodmap use my menstrual cycle? +

IBS symptoms commonly worsen around your period. If you turn cycle tracking on, Fodmap relates your flares to your cycle phase and shows when in your cycle flares are most likely for you, using a manually entered period date or read-only Apple Health data.

Is my health data private? +

Yes. Your logs are stored locally on your device. There is no account, no ads, and your health data is never sold. Apple Health access is read-only and optional.

Can I share reports with my doctor? +

Yes. Fodmap exports professional PDF and CSV reports covering your flares, meals, suspect foods, stool pattern, and IBS-SSS severity trend over any date range, formatted for a GI appointment.

Does Fodmap work offline? +

Yes. Everything is stored on your device, so logging, insights, and the low-FODMAP plan all work without an internet connection.
